Dafflon is one of a generation of young artists whose non-representational
formal vocabulary relates to historic positions within abstract geometrical
art. The artist links these models with the universal repertoire of
signs and codes from the sphere of visual culture and with questions
relating to architecture, or to spatial matters.
Dafflon made his name with his large-format wall paintings, whose repetitive
patterns are drawn above all from the production methods and aesthetics
of graphic or industrial design.

For the Mercedes-Benz Center, the artist conceived his hitherto largest
wall painting, based on a sequence of ten colors, from blue via green
and yellow to red, and developing as a kind of sculptural rainbow. The
sequence of colors is arranged in mirror image, with the individual
stripes designed as long, voluminous ovals. The position in the upper
part of the wall reflects the use of the place by relating to the continuous
line of windows in the staff canteen opposite. From there viewers can
enrich the abstract band of color with individual associations and natural
images.
