Novelists and science
fiction authors, own experience gained with Unix systems and work with
3D programs like "SoftImage" provide the elements and structures for
the artistic motifs in Katja Davars video "Remote Host".
Katja
Davar, Remote Host, 2001, Videoanimation/Stills, Duration 1:28 min
Here colors are
derived from the test picture of the TV monitor or are mixed from the
defined color pallets supplied with operating systems and software.
A fundamental approach in Katja Davar's work is the reflection on how
past, present and future can be thought up out of time. "Is it tomorrow
yet?". This question, a quotation from Richard Power's novel "Galatea
2.2", suddenly appears in the video as an animated logo. The question
draws attention to the absurd technology difference embodied by the
flying object itself because in our day and age, the balloon has long
since been replaced by what it carries - the satellite as a discovery
vehicle in aerospace. What is future? Will artificial intelligence at
some stage be advanced enough to completely isolate and finish off the
human being?
